Tech billionaire Elon Musk has recently expressed his disappointment with what he calls the ‘liberal bias’ of ChatGPT, the popular generative AI chatbot developed by OpenAI.<\/p>\n
Musk, one of the early donors of OpenAIback in 2015, said he plans to counter the rapidly growing influence of ChatGPT and the inherent bias in its language by launching his own TruthGPT.<\/p>\n
The Tesla and SpaceX founder, who also acquired the popular microblogging site Twitter back in\u00a0 October, has hinted \u201cWhat we need is TruthGPT,\u201d in his plan to create the rival platform via a tweet<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n On Monday or a couple of months after hinting at his plans of venturing into generative AI, Musk confirmed in an interview with Fox New’s Tucker Carlson that he is indeed dipping his fingers into AI emphasizing that he\u2019d want his AI chatbot to be a \u201cmaximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe.\u201d<\/p>\n To be more specific, Musk told Carlson that he wants TruthGPT as ‘an AI that cares about understanding the universe [that] is unlikely to annihilate humans.’<\/span><\/p>\n In March, Musk together with several academics and Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak signed an open letter<\/a> that seeks a ‘pause on AI systems experiments’ with human-competitive intelligence, which can pose ‘profound risks to society and humanity.’<\/p>\n The group demanded that AI labs immediately pause, at least for the next six months, the training of AI systems<\/a> that are more potent than GPT-4.<\/p>\n According to Musk, ChatGPT is programmed to be “politically correct,” which is “simply another way of saying untruthful things,” thus he claimed there is a need for the “truth” in the name of his upcoming AI model.<\/p>\n The venture into AI also came not as a surprise to many observers in the tech industry because as early as last year, right at the time when he acquired Twitter, the billionaire has already brought out the idea of creating an all-encompassing app<\/a> called X to replace Twitter and would serve as a one-stop shop for most users’ needs.<\/p>\n Truth be told, only five months later, the Wall Street Journal<\/a> broke out the story based on a Nevada state filing that Musk has created X.AI Corp. which listed himself as the sole director of the company and subsequently authorized the sale of 100 million shares.<\/p>\n Another proof of Musk’s foray into AI is his recent purchase of over 10,000 GPUs or graphics processing units as reported by Business Insider<\/a>. Because they can handle a lot of data at once, GPUs are employed for most generative AI projects. Given that machine learning models, such as generative AI, are trained on enormous volumes of data. As a result, the latest acquisition clearly indicates that the tech billionaire is serious about pursuing his generative AI project.<\/p>\n Lastly, Musk’s hiring of two AI experts, engineers Igor Babuschkin and Manuel Kroiss for his latest venture, is the final confirmation proof that he plans to take on other tech giants like Microsoft and Google in the AI race.<\/p>\n
