The leaders of the seven leading global economies who recently gathered in Hiroshima, Japan over the weekend have expressed concerns about the growth of generative artificial intelligence as they jointly call for developing and adopting technical standards for the responsible use of AI.<\/span><\/p>\n In a joint G7 Hiroshima Leaders\u2019 <\/span>Communiqu\u00e9<\/span><\/a> released over the weekend, the leaders raised the alarm on the growth of generative AI and called on other leaders to advance international discussions on inclusive AI governance.<\/span><\/p>\n The G7 leaders stressed that it is important that there be \u201cinteroperability to achieve a common vision and goal of trustworthy AI\u201d and that it should be aligned with democratic values, especially for developed nations already embracing the technology.<\/span><\/p>\n European Union President Ursula von der Leyen, in a <\/span>tweet<\/span><\/a> highlighted the importance of AI and its potential benefits to the economy but stressed \u2018guardrails\u2019 must be set in place.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cArtificial intelligence\u2019s potential benefits for citizens and the economy are great. At the same time, we need to agree to guardrails to develop AI in the EU, reflecting our democratic values. We want AI systems to be accurate, reliable, safe, and non-discriminatory, regardless of their origin,\u201d von der Leyen said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n Earlier this month, EU leaders were close to passing legislation to set rules for governing generative AI technologies like OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT and Google\u2019s Bard AI technologies, which have had remarkable use and adoption among various countries in the past months.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
