He commented on the event during his coronavirus briefing at the White House. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-08-04\/trump-says-bomb-may-have-caused-beirut-port-explosion?srnd=premium\">U.S military officials<\/a> also agreed to Trump&#8217;s allegations and said \u201cseem to think it was an attack. President Trump offered sympathy to the Lebanese people. In a statement Trump said-<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"td_quote_box td_box_center\"><p>\u201cOur prayers go out to all the victims and their families. The United States stands ready to assist Lebanon. We have a very good relationship with the people of Lebanon and we will be there to help. It looks like a terrible attack.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The massive explosion happened at the Lebanese main port on Tuesday. The Lebanese authority is expecting a heavy death toll and mass destruction after the blast.<\/p>\n<h2>What the Lebanese Authority Saying About the Beirut Explosion<\/h2>\n<p>As a part of the former Ottoman Empire, Lebanon has been a conflict zone in the Middle East for years. However, the Lebanese authority declined any possibility of an attack. Prime Minister Hassan Diab is calling the blast a \u201cmajor national disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not rest until we hold whoever is responsible accountable and punish them with the most severe punishment\u201d \u2013 says the Lebanese PM<\/p>\n<h2>U.S Defense Statements Contradicting Trump\u2019s Claim<\/h2>\n<p>U.S defense officials found <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2020\/08\/04\/politics\/defense-officials-contradict-trump-beirut\/index.html\">no indication of attack in the explosion<\/a>, CNN reported on Tuesday. The statement was a direct contradiction to President Trump\u2019s claim.
