India confirms more than 100,000 deaths due to the COVID 19, making it the third country of the world with increasing cases. The past month was the worst for the country reporting 1100 deaths daily.

One of the wealthiest states of India known as Maharashtra with a population of 1.3 million was affected badly by the virus. The death toll reported has increased to 36,000.

In September there was a spike in cases reporting more than 300-500 deaths on a daily basis. This was the worse to occur as even previously the badly hit states reported 100 deaths a day

Similarly, Pune district became second with higher fatalities reporting more than 5800 deaths the past month from COVID-19.

Punjab is another state suffering from casualties of the virus. With a fatality rate of 3%, it has become the ninth state of the country with the largest deaths. What is extremely concerning, is the fatality rate is rising to more than 4% as per the findings.

Experts claim that it is better to carry out widespread testing as it will help reduce the fatality rates. The cases have increased in Punjab and Maharashtra because lower testing could ultimately result in more deaths.

Doctors believe that if you are not carrying out the required number of testing, then it results in tons of cases. This might be due to poor awareness. Limited testing leads to more hospitalizations and leads to a larger number of deaths.

A recent study from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh says the average time of hospitalization, leading to death is 13 days, concluding the fact that a wide number of patients were tested later. Although Tamil Nadhu has a low fatality rate and frequent testing yet it reported 9000 deaths, making it the second-highest in the country.

The highest cases and fatality rates are reported more from the urban areas accounting for 80% of the country’s death toll. Due to extensive urbanization, social distancing has not practiced the way it is. This can be the prime reason for surging cases in Punjab and Maharashtra.

Government and experts feared that poorer states might be adversely affected by the virus, but it is astounding to witness more cases from the urbanized states.
