As per the new poll by Globe Scan, huge differences of opinions were observed by citizens all over the world over the growing concern of climate change.

This issue needs to be addressed quickly by the authorities, but a strange response was witnessed by the respondents towards the issue.

A large number of people in poorer countries agreed with fighting climate change with the same zeal as Covid-19. However, in richer countries, people showed no real interest in the growing concern.

Although the world is still struggling against COVID 19 and most importantly in an economic context. A poll carried out by Globescan showed people around the world were found to be more concerned regarding climate change.

Almost  90% of respondents claimed climate change as one of the most serious issues.

In 2014 when the same poll was done with people from the United States only 60% believed that this is a serious problem. Whereas in June 2020 this percentage increased to 81% despite Trump’s apprehensions for this issue.

Even in India, the figure has increased from 70-93% as people expressed deep concern.

But when people were acquired, whether their country should strive to fight against climate change with the same spirit as for COVID 19 there were huge differences of opinions of people from rich and poor countries.

Japan, Australia, Sweden, had less than 45% of respondents who insisted upon quick action. While the figure was more than 70% in Kenya, Argentina, Mexico.

People were also asked who is most likely to suffer from the effects of climate change in which 60% of respondents from South Africa, Brazil, and Kenya said the poor community. However, in Japan, the USA, and Australia less than 40% agreed with the same question.

Such diverse responses of these people might be due to their personal experience with climate change. This can be explained by the fact that in the UK only 13% claimed that they were affected personally due to climate change. While 34% of the same respondents suffered because of the ongoing pandemic.

In an interview, Eric Wuhan from Globescan said that this situation reminds of the hurricane Katrina. Currently, we are in the same situation and more vulnerable than ever.

This poll was executed through the internet. Around 1000 adults from 27 countries were a part of it. It is released to begin Climate week 2020 in New York and is reported to be one of the biggest climate summits to take place.
