Several major television networks like CNN, NBC, and ABC News have called the recent U.S. Presidential race in favor of Democrat Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the 46th President of the world’s largest economy.

Projections from the major US TV news networks have shown to be in favor of the former U.S. Vice-president Joe Biden who ran alongside Sen. Kamala Harris who becomes the 49th vice-president of the United States, and the first woman and the first candidate of African-Asian descent to be elected into the second-highest position in the country.

According to a CNN report, President-elect Biden was ahead of Republican candidate and incumbent President Donald J. Trump in achieving the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

The former Vice-President and now President-elect edged out Trump in his boyhood hometown of Pennsylvania pushing him with an additional 20 electoral votes pushing him into a total of 273 electoral votes over Trump’s 213 electoral votes as of Saturday morning.

Biden served as Vice-President during the term of President Barack Obama and was the longest-serving senator of Delaware.

In a statement on November 7, President-elect Biden said he is ‘honored’ and ‘humbled’ with the results of the polls which saw a tight race between him and incumbent President Trump.

“I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris. In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America.”

He also called on Americans “to put anger and harsh rhetoric behind” amid protests launched by Trump supporters in the past days.

“With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together,” Biden’s official statement said.

Biden will officially assume office on January 20, 2021, as the oldest person to be elected president of the United States after garnering a record and historic voter turnout in the U.S.

It took at least four-days of nail-biting suspense after the election on Tuesday which saw Trump leading at the early days of vote counting. The tight race however was decided in battleground states like Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania as mail-in ballots were counted in favor of the Democratic candidate giving him four to five figures lead against Trump in several key states.

As early as Friday, Biden has expected to win the presidential race but did not announce victory early while votes were still counted in some states.

Meanwhile, Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris over at Twitter said:

“This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.”

Meanwhile, President Trump has been contesting votes and called on a halt in vote-counting in some states but was faced by denials by several courts.
