Germany Extends Anti-COVID Restrictions until March 7. In England, Boris Johnson BANS SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Germany is extending the lockdown required to combat the spread of the new type of coronavirus until March 7 , as federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the prime ministers of the 16 states have agreed on the issue, Reuters reports.

Germany initially imposed a lockdown in November, and then tightened restrictions in the face of rising contamination, but despite a slight drop in new infections, Merkel and state leaders do not consider the country still safe. The lockdown involved closing schools, kindergartens and non-essential stores, DPA reports.

Also on Wednesday, it was decided that the state prime ministers will decide for themselves on the subsequent reopening of the schools, and a green light has already been given to resume their activity on March 1.

“Let’s use the time we have before the British version of the virus has become predominant, to reduce the number of new infections”, according to the participants in the meeting, quoted by DPA.

In the UK, “it is currently forbidden to go on holiday”. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told a news conference: “Our priority right now is to continue the vaccination campaign and speed it up as much as possible.”

The prime minister stressed that “it is too early” to give answers to the topic of summer vacation or weddings.

Boris Johnson announced that on February 22 he will provide more details on the roadmap to get out of the current deadlock and end the restrictions.

In England, 25% of adults and over 90% of those over 75 have been vaccinated, but what continues to worry Downing Street are coronavirus mutations.
