Iran is issued an order to pay $1.45 bn by a US judge to the family of an ex-agent of the FBI who went missing during his visit to the country in 2007.

Robert Levinson’s family is to be rewarded with compensation of kidnapping with 1.35bn for the disciplinary and $107m for remunerative damage. The Iranian government has not given any statement regarding the issue and even denied knowing Levinson’s current location

While US authorities believe that Levinson passed away while being in Irans custody

On Thursday, Judge Timothy Kelly of the US District Court in Washington while addressing the issue said that it is the first major achievement towards getting justice. Neither Iran paid heed to the concern nor it bore any sort of consequence associated with the concern

Judge Kelly’s decision won’t bring immediate justice, but will serve as a strong warning against future hostage by Iran

Levinson went missing on his trip to the Island of Kish located in the Gulf, Iran in 2007. As per the US authorities, he was a private investigator working for various firms

But US media claims he went for an authorized mission for the CIA, and during his time at Kish, he came across a renegade known as Dawud Salahuddin.

Salahuddin told that Levinson told that he is here to investigate the smuggling of cigarettes in the Gulf and it was after this meeting that Levinson went missing.

Levinson’s family was sent photos of him in 2011 where he was wearing an orange jumpsuit. Hillary Clinton said that it seems like he is held somewhere in South West Asia

The FBI issued statements to the family that they are doing their level best to discover everything regarding the case. But all the evidence collected over the past 13 years depicts that Levinson died while being in captivity.

Judge Kelly claimed Iran’s attitude towards the issue is highly concerning. They held an FBI agent captive for 13 years and do not even accept the claims of having him in their country.

This act deserves all the condemnation. Levinson’s family will never be able to know the exact reason behind the issue.
