Police raided Jimmy Lai and his newspaper officers and arrested them. This arrest is the most high profile arrest under new security law implemented in June by China Government.

The new law has been the cause of many protests and arrests of the protester since it was approved by Beijing.

Jimmy Lai has been very active when it comes to politics. He has also been supportive of the protest erupted last year in China and has always been a noticeable pro-democracy voice.

Global Time, National state media of china, stated Jimmy Lai as a riot supporter. The media also called his publications and news articles as protest provoking, hatred spreading, and demolishing the integrity of state for years.

Two of his sons and some senior media executives of Next Digital had also been arrested, says Global times.

Many policemen were also seen to enter the Apply Daily building and searching offices. The police confirmed by sharing a post on Facebook that seven people had been arrested so far under the Beijing security law.

The reaction of Jimmy Lai’s newspaper agency, Apple Daily, is to protect Mr. Lai. Some of the people from his newspaper building were heard saying that they were arranging lawyers. They also claimed that Jimmy Lai’s arrest was straight harassment and an attack on the company’s reputation.

Wang Dan shared his thoughts on social media that the arrest was clearly expected and inevitable but the authorities seem to destroy Jimmy Lai’s will through his family ties. He also stated the arrest as outrageous as not only Lai himself but also two of his sons had been arrested.

There have been two waves of arresting people under this security law since Beijing approved the law on 30, June. The first wave flooded many protesters and the second wave engulfed many pro-independent activists.
