FBI Hacked, Hundreds of Thousands of Emails Sent from .fbi Email Adresses

Category:

FBI’s email system was hacked on Saturday and hundreds of thousands of spam emails were sent from official addresses, warning of a possible cyber attack.

Here’s FBI’s official response following the incident:

“The FBI and CISA are aware of the incident this morning involving fake emails from an @ic.fbi.gov email account,” adding  “This is an ongoing situation and we are not able to provide any additional information at this time. The impacted hardware was taken offline quickly upon discovery of the issue. We continue to encourage the public to be cautious of unknown senders and urge you to report suspicious activity to www.ic3.gov or www.cisa.gov.”

The spam emails were sent from a @ic.fbi.gov address, a legit email address that is, and the spam emails referenced a weird Vinny Troia – CEO of Night Lion Security story, while the metadata shows clearly that the emails were in fact sent from an FBI server.

Somebody please hack the IRS and scrub all the records. Like with a rag? That should keep them busy for a while.
