New Guinea has the highest plant diversity as compared to the other island of the world. It has exclusive botanical riches that is why this is called Paradise Island.

This is the world’s largest tropical island with huge floral diversity. Botanists have found more than 13,000 species including tiny orchids and tall ferns. One third is only found on this island and not on any other island of the world.

The research survey was published in the journal Nature.

The newly discovered plants will now be preserved carefully. Naming each plant after the identification is the first step in preserving the newly discovered flora.

Dr. Tim from Royal Botanic Gardens revealed that if we lost them, there was literally no chance to restore them again as they were not found anywhere outside this island. He added that this was their responsibility to conserve the unique plant life on New Guinea.

It is also said that New Guinea is the world’s best-preserved ecosystem so far which ranges from coastal mangroves to alpine grasses.

Dr. Rodrigo from the University of Zurich revealed some facts that New Guinea was a paradise island that is full of life and known as the center of biological diversity in the world.

For conservation estimation, new plant names, the geographic distribution of the plants, and identification are required by The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to compile the red list of engendered species.

Undoubtedly, New Guinea has the world’s biggest plant diversity as it has given 2,812 new plant species to the world since 1970. According to this estimation, four thousand more species may be discovered from New Guinea in the coming 50 years.

According to Dr. Sandra Knapp of the Natural History Museum, London, there is still numerous plant species to be discovered from New Guinea.
