A woman was gang-raped and robbed by two robbers at gunpoint in Gujjar Pura, Punjab, Pakistan on Wednesday while she was waiting for help on motorway after her car ran out of fuel.
The woman was travelling to Lahore to Gujranwala with three of her children.
Police officials stated that as the woman crossed the toll plaza area on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway her car stalled either due to shortage of petrol or some other fault.
Meanwhile, she got a call from her relative of Gujranwala who asked her to call the police for help while he also left from home to reach her but when he reached the location he saw woman terrified with fear and her clothes were stained with blood.
According to police officials, two armed men found the women alone took her and her children to a nearby field at gunpoint, and then the woman was gang-raped in front of her children.
Those rapists also took away cash, jewellery and other valuables that included her debit cards from her. The woman is said to be resident of the defence housing authority and her husband worked abroad.
Newly appointed Lahore police chief Umar sheikh is tasked to probe into the case. He constituted various teams to get their hands on culprits. However, he blamed the victim for the incident believing she should have taken the GT road or a less deserted on and at-least should have checked her petrol tank before heading towards the journey.
The statement given by CCPO drew a lot of criticism from people all across the country and demand for his resignation #REMOVECCPOLAHORE has become the latest trend on twitter.
There has been a great deal of public outcry since the day incident took place. Political leaders, activists have strongly condemned the incident and blamed Punjab government for its poor of management law and order.
The Punjab government constituted a high-level committee to investigate the Lahore motorway rape case. The committee is beheaded by Punjab Law minister Raja Basharaat Ali while DG forensic agency additional chief secretary.
