Walmart, one of the largest retail corporations in the world decided to run a pilot project to deliver household products using automated drones, reported Reuters
However, an end-to-end delivery firm Flytrex will also support the cause. Already Walmart has been trying to improve the delivery business as the Coronavirus Pandemic forced customers to stay home.
The retail giant is planning to use cloud-controlled drones to pick up and drop items in Fayetteville, North Carolina as a part of the pilot project.
“We know that it will be some time before we see millions of packages delivered via drone. That still feels like a bit of science fiction.”
-Tom Ward, senior vice-president, customer products.
The company executives are seeing the delivery services as an opportunity. Customers are more interested to get products delivered at their doorstep rather than visiting the actual store.
The online sales, as a result, doubled in the second quarter of 2020. Walmart also reported a vehicle delivery system by partnering with companies like Ford and self-driving vehicle producer Gatik.

Walmart Online Sales Performance Boosted
According to the recent reports, Walmart saw e-commerce sales doubled in the second quarter of fiscal 2021. The news also showed a surge in online grocery sales since it was delivered to the doorsteps of the customers.
The sales reports claimed that the numbers are an all-time high. However, the actual figures were yet to be published.
CEO Doug McMillon thinks that the government stimulus checks proved to be a catalyst for the surge in online sales.
“As the benefits from stimulus waned toward the end of the quarter, we saw our [comparable] sales settle into a normal range”
-Doug McMillon
Meanwhile, more news on the retail company showed that the actual sales of the company dropped in July. Since online sales are boosting it is logical for the company executives to improvise the delivery system in the future.
